Business seasons

Pakistan’s busy seasons, planned ahead.

Ramadan, two Eids, 14 August, the wedding rush, tax returns and admissions each change how a business runs. Expected dates and practical tips, in one place.

Ramadan

Expected dates are worked out from the Islamic calendar.

Shorter office hours, late-night shopping, iftar rush at food outlets and zakat calculations for many families.

  • Change shop and staff timings in one place before the 1st of Ramadan.
  • Stock up on dates, beverages, oil and flour — demand jumps in the first week.
  • Run payroll and bonuses early so staff are paid before Eid.

Eid ul Fitr

Expected after Ramadan.

Peak shopping in the last ten days of Ramadan, then a 3–4 day holiday when most offices close.

  • Plan staff leave and the holiday roster early.
  • Keep enough cash and change at every counter for the rush.
  • Send customers your Eid timings on WhatsApp.

Eid ul Adha

Expected on 10 Dhul Hijjah.

Cattle markets, butchers and weighbridges are busiest; many families travel home.

  • Weighbridges and mandis: expect long queues — print slips fast.
  • Halls see fewer events in the Eid week, then a rush of weddings after.
  • Confirm transport and delivery staff before the holidays.

Independence Day

14 August every year.

Green flags, offers and family outings around 14 August — a public holiday.

  • Run a 14 August offer and post it on WhatsApp and Facebook.
  • Plan the 14 August holiday in your staff roster.
  • A good time to send a thank-you message to regular customers.

Wedding season

November to February, and after Eid ul Adha.

From November to February halls, marquees, caterers and decorators are booked weeks ahead.

  • Lock dates with an advance so the same hall and slot are never double-booked.
  • Send deposit and balance reminders on WhatsApp before the event.
  • Keep a list of vendors — decor, DJ, photography — with their rates.

Tax return season

July to September (tax year ends 30 June).

The tax year ends on 30 June; salaried people and businesses file returns in the following months.

  • Keep monthly sales and expense records ready — it makes the return quick.
  • Collect withholding tax certificates from banks and employers.
  • Check sales tax returns are filed every month by the due date.

School admissions

March–April, and August for some schools.

New sessions usually start in March–April (and August for some schools) — admissions, fee vouchers and results all at once.

  • Prepare admission forms and fee structure before the session.
  • Send result cards and fee vouchers together to save parents a trip.
  • Import last year's students instead of typing them again.

Islamic dates are expected dates; the actual day depends on moon sighting in Pakistan. See the full business calendar for tax deadlines and public holidays.
