- Read your semester GPA and new CGPA.
Formula
Example
A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and B+ (3.33) in another 3-credit course gives a GPA of (12 + 10) ÷ 6 = 3.67.
GPA vs CGPA
GPA is your grade point average for one semester. CGPA is the average over all semesters so far, weighted by credit hours. A 3-credit course counts three times as much as a 1-credit lab.
Raising your CGPA
Courses with more credit hours move your CGPA the most. Many universities allow a course to be repeated to improve a low grade; check your university’s rules on which grade is counted.
CGPA requirements
- Many scholarships ask for a CGPA of 3.0 or higher
- Graduate admissions often require 2.5–3.0 or more
- Some jobs list a minimum CGPA, commonly 2.5–3.0
