GST / Sales Tax Calculator

Work out sales tax on a bill in one step. Enter an amount, pick whether it already includes tax, and see the amount before tax, the GST and the total. The rate starts at 18% and you can change it for any other rate.

How to use the GST / Sales Tax Calculator

  1. Type the amount in rupees.
  2. Check or change the tax rate (18% is filled in).
  3. Choose “Before tax” to add GST, or “Including tax” to take it out.
  4. Read the tax and total in the blue box — it updates as you type.

Formula

Add GST: Tax = Amount × Rate ÷ 100, Total = Amount + Tax Remove GST: Amount = Total ÷ (1 + Rate ÷ 100), Tax = Total − Amount

Example

A supplier quotes Rs 50,000 before tax. At 18%, the GST is Rs 9,000 and the bill is Rs 59,000. If a bill of Rs 59,000 already includes 18% tax, the price without tax is Rs 50,000.

When you need to add GST and when to remove it

Add GST when you have a price before tax, such as a supplier quote or your own cost, and you need the amount the customer pays. Remove GST when you only have the final bill and need to know the real price and the tax inside it, for example when you record purchases in your books or check a supplier invoice.

A common mistake: taking 18% off the total

If a bill of Rs 11,800 includes 18% tax, the tax is not 18% of 11,800 (Rs 2,124). The correct tax is Rs 1,800, because 18% was charged on Rs 10,000. Always divide by 1.18 to find the price before tax. The calculator does this for you when you pick “Including tax”.

What a tax invoice should show

  • Your business name, address and NTN / STRN
  • The buyer’s name, and their NTN / STRN if they are registered
  • Invoice number and date
  • Description, quantity and value of each item before tax
  • The sales tax rate and amount, and the total including tax

Who should register for sales tax

Manufacturers, importers, wholesalers and many retailers above set thresholds must register with FBR for federal sales tax on goods. Services are taxed by the provinces: PRA in Punjab, SRB in Sindh, KPRA in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and BRA in Balochistan. The rules change often, so confirm with a tax adviser before you register or charge tax.

Frequently asked questions

What is the sales tax rate in Pakistan?

The standard federal sales tax on goods is 18%, but reduced, zero and higher rates apply to some items, and services are taxed by the provinces at their own rates. Always confirm the current rate with FBR or your provincial revenue authority.

Is GST the same as sales tax?

In everyday use, yes. People in Pakistan say GST for the general sales tax charged on a sale.

Can I use this for other countries?

Yes. Just type the VAT or GST rate of that country.

How do I calculate 18% GST on Rs 1,000?

Multiply Rs 1,000 by 0.18. The GST is Rs 180 and the total is Rs 1,180.

How do I find the price without GST from a total?

Divide the total by 1 plus the rate. For 18%, divide by 1.18. Rs 1,180 ÷ 1.18 = Rs 1,000.

Does the calculator keep my figures?

No. Everything is worked out in your browser and nothing is sent to us.

Results are estimates for planning. For tax, legal or religious decisions, confirm with a qualified person. Your inputs stay in your browser and are not sent to Soft2Cloud.
