Fuel Cost Calculator

Work out how much petrol or diesel a trip uses and what your daily commute costs per month. Split it between people for carpooling.

How to use the Fuel Cost Calculator

  1. Enter the one-way distance.
  2. Enter your vehicle’s average in km per litre.
  3. Enter the current fuel price.
  4. Set trips per month and whether it is a return trip.

Formula

Litres = Distance ÷ Average Cost = Litres × Price per litre

Example

A 25 km commute each way in a car doing 14 km/l uses 3.57 litres per day.

Find your real mileage

Fill the tank fully and reset the trip meter. Drive normally, then fill up again. Divide the kilometres driven by the litres added. This is your true km per litre, usually lower than the company figure.

Typical mileage ranges

  • 70–125cc motorcycles: often 40–60 km per litre
  • 660–1000cc cars: often 14–20 km per litre in the city
  • 1300–1800cc cars: often 10–14 km per litre in the city
  • Highway driving is usually better than city traffic

Cutting fuel cost

Keep tyres at the right pressure, avoid long idling, service the engine on time and share rides for office trips. Even 10% better mileage saves thousands of rupees a year.
