Bank Profit Calculator

See how much a savings account or term deposit (TDR) will really pay you. Enter the amount, profit rate and period, choose filer or non-filer, and get the profit before tax, the tax deducted and what you keep.

How to use the Bank Profit Calculator

  1. Enter the amount you will deposit.
  2. Enter the yearly profit rate offered by the bank.
  3. Enter the period in months.
  4. Choose your tax status.
  5. Choose whether you take the profit out each month or let it grow.

Formula

Monthly profit = Deposit × Rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100 Tax = Profit × Tax rate Net profit = Profit − Tax

Example

Rs 10 lakh at 10% for 12 months pays Rs 1,00,000 profit before tax. A filer pays 20% tax (Rs 20,000) and keeps Rs 80,000 — about Rs 6,667 a month.

Compare offers properly

  • Ask whether profit is paid monthly, quarterly or at maturity
  • Check the minimum balance needed for the advertised rate
  • Check early withdrawal penalties on term deposits
  • Compare after-tax profit, not the headline rate

Filer status matters

Non-filers pay a much higher withholding tax on bank profit. If you have savings, filing a tax return each year often pays for itself through lower tax on profit alone.

Profit and inflation

If prices rise faster than your after-tax profit, your money loses buying power even while the balance grows. Look at the after-tax rate against current inflation when deciding where to keep savings.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a savings account and a TDR?

A savings account lets you take money out any time, and its rate can change. A term deposit locks the money for a fixed period, usually for a better rate, with a penalty for breaking it early.

Do Islamic banks pay a fixed rate?

No. Islamic banks share profit under Mudarabah and announce an expected rate that can change each month.

Is zakat deducted from savings accounts?

Banks deduct zakat on 1st Ramadan from savings accounts above the nisab unless you submit a zakat exemption declaration.
