At $22 an hour with 40 regular hours and 8 overtime hours: $880 + (8 × $33) = $1,144 for the week.
Who gets overtime?
Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, non-exempt employees must get at least 1.5 times their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. Many salaried managers and professionals are exempt. Some states add daily overtime - California pays 1.5× after 8 hours in a day and 2× after 12.

They are taxed at the same rates, but a bigger paycheck can be withheld at a higher rate.
Is overtime counted per week or per pay period?
Federal law uses the workweek, not a two-week pay period.
Do holidays count toward 40 hours?
Paid time off usually does not count as hours worked for overtime, unless your employer's policy says it does.
Can I be paid comp time instead?
Private employers generally must pay overtime in money; public employers may offer comp time.
