Working With US Clients From Pakistan: Time Zones, Time Sheets, Invoices and Getting Paid

Pakistani freelancers and software teams win more US work every year. The difference between a one-off job and a long-term client is often not skill but smooth operations: overlapping hours, clear time records, professional invoices and painless payments.

Working With US Clients From Pakistan: Time Zones, Time Sheets, Invoices and Getting Paid

Find the overlap

Pakistan Standard Time is UTC+5 all year. US Eastern time is UTC-5 in winter and UTC-4 in summer, so Karachi and Lahore are 9-10 hours ahead of New York and 12-13 hours ahead of California. In winter, 9:00 AM in New York is 7:00 PM in Pakistan - a good window for a daily stand-up. US daylight saving time ended on November 1, 2026, which shifts every meeting by an hour for you.

Keep honest, simple time sheets

Hourly clients want to see hours, not guesses. Record start and end times each day, subtract breaks, and send a weekly total with your invoice. If you work late-night US hours, an overnight shift still needs to be counted correctly.

Send professional invoices

An invoice with a number, date, due date, your details, the client's details, line items and payment instructions gets paid faster than a WhatsApp message. Bill in US dollars, state the payment terms (for example Net 15), and keep copies for your own tax records.

Price in dollars - correctly

Do not convert your local salary into dollars. Price against the US market and your costs: tools, internet, power backup, taxes and the unbillable time spent on sales and admin. Check what each platform or payment method will deduct before you quote.

Tax at home

Foreign income received through proper banking channels is taxed at a reduced final rate for freelancers in Pakistan - 0.25% for PSEB-registered IT freelancers and 1% otherwise under current rules. Our separate guide explains the details.

Communicate like a local

  • Confirm meeting times in the client's time zone, e.g. “10 AM ET / 8 PM PKT”.
  • Send a short written summary after every call.
  • Share files as PDFs - merged, compressed and clearly named.
  • Use a clean email signature with your name, role, company and website.

Add the client's city to the time zone converter and keep it open during the week. It removes nearly all meeting-time mistakes.
